I was commissioned as the photographer for an article on trekking by Vasa, the youth section of the regional newspaper Lapin kansa. So for two days, I accompanied and guided our reporter Elena on her first ever trek through the national park of Pyhä-Luosto, two neighboring fells in central Lapland. We embarked on our adventure from the ski resort of Luosto and finished at its counterpart at Pyhä. The complete distance of our trek rounded up somewhere near 30 km. The weather was sunny, but excruciatingly hot, especially during the first day as the temperature peaked near 30 °C (86 °F) with our path mostly in direct sunlight. Traveling during night would have been wiser, but since there was only one bus for us to catch around three o'clock the next day, we had to push forward through the heat. It was imperative to drink a lot of water. The abnormally warm day also sparked a boost into the bloodthirsty bugs and we were continuously harassed by horse flies and mosquitoes. Luckily, during the following day the sun partially hid behind clouds making the ascent and decent of the last great fell, Noitatunturi, much more enjoyable.
Check out the video reportage of our venture (only in Finnish).
EDIT: Looking back now a year later, the video could use some serious editing, but I guess it's good enough. New endeavors await!
Here are some pictures from the trip. Enjoy!
